About Scotta Turboinstitut

Founded in 1948 as an independent laboratory for turbo machines, Scotta Turboinštitut has evolved into a full-service hydro energy solutions provider. Strategically based in Ljubljana, Slovenia, we offer complete services for turbine and pump modeling, R&D, testing, and the full range of electro-mechanical equipment for small hydropower plants.

1948

Turboinštitut was established as the centre of knowledge and industrial research of hydraulic machines.

1954

Turboinštitut became an independent research institution with the founders Slovenian Academy of Sciences and Arts, University in Ljubljana and Government of Slovenia.

First test rig installed - start of turbine and pump model tests.

1986 - 1987

Modernization of Turboinštitut‘s test rigs:

  • Francis turbine with vertical turbine shaft - construction
  • Bulb and Pelton turbines refurbishment
  • Kaplan turbine – construction
  • Axial and mixed flow pumps test rig refurbishment
  • Radial pumps - construction

1993

Start of development of small hydro electro mechanical equipment design, production and engineering.

2000 - 2008

Expansion of Turboinštitut (equipment supply) to other continents:

  • 1st hydro project in Asia – 2000
  • 1st hydro project in LATAM – 2002
  • 1st hydro project in Africa – 2008

2007 - 2010

Significant refurbishment and modernization of the test rigs for Francis, bulb, Kaplan and Pelton turbines

2012

First small hydro EPC projects: concession for water exploitation: Bošava (Macedonia) - construction of five small HPP‘s

2013

Turboinštitut became a part of Kolektor Group (Slovenia).

2021

Turboinštitut became a part of SCOTTA S.p.A (Italy), after a long and successful partnership lasting over 20 years.
